Mind Over Matter

Mental Health awareness is the ongoing effort to reduce the stigma around mental illness and mental health conditions by sharing out personal experience. Often, because of misconceptions about mental health, people suffer in silence and their conditions go untreated.

May is considered Mental Health Awareness Month. Mental Health awareness campaigns have yielded positive outcomes from people. However, mental health isn’t just about having or not having a mental illness. Our well-being is affected by all aspects of our lives, and that in turn, affects how we experience life, work, and time with our loved ones.

Taking this into heart, Parahitam started Mental Awareness Program in the month of May to promote mental health. We, the volunteers of Parahitam organized a giveaway event of greetings and chocolates at Cubbon Park.

Volunteers prepared greeting cards, wrote motivational and beautiful messages /quotes in English and Kannada. The public picked the cards they liked to give it to their loved ones or to keep themselves.

Words of appreciation from the people has encouraged us to conduct more such activities.

How are you?

This has been the question which we ask someone to whom we talk/meet after a long time. Right? May be that question had an intention to check about the wellbeing of a person. However, it has turned out to be just an icebreaker question nowadays,

Hence, we thought it’s the right time to really ask “How are you?”. We started a campaign with #ConvoCare by contacting people whom we know. The volunteers sent messages –

Are you feeling happy today?

Do you like yourself?

to people they are familiar with. If the answer was Yes, we felt happy about it. If the answer was No, then we ask them to open up about their problems and let them know that we are here to hear you.

We received few responses as No from people and we took an immediate action by speaking to them about the problems.

It’s okay to have problems, It doesn’t make you bad or wrong. Having problems is a part of being human. However, tackling a problem doesn’t have to be so stressful. When you have the right tools in your box, you can handle most of them with more success and far less stress

World will be so much better if we can just hear to other’s problems
